Richie Havens

Folk singer, Richie Havens passed away yesterday, and the sky is cryin'... Richie was opening act @ Woodstock Art and Music Festival in 1969, and he played for over three hours, as promoters were unable to bring the next group in, because of the roads being jammed with attendees. I visited with Richie in Lyons, Colorado at the Planet Bluegrass Folk Fest in 2007, or was it 2008...? FYI - photos are for sale either digitally or hard copies. garyrhodesfotos@hotmail.com or 720-732-6196

Boulder Portraits

I attended the last day of the 2013 Conference on World Affairs in Boulder yesterday. The attached images are portraits taken w/Lumix point & shoot. Pictures include a young photographer, Shane Bauer, who along with two friends, spent 26 months in an Iranian prison, accused of being a spy. Trey Lyons, a Foreign Service Officer, Cathy Comstock, panel moderator, my BMW mechanic, Roger, and my son-in-law Ben, who oversees operations at the Boulder,  Chase Bank. Also, Ike Wilson,  soldier, scholar, who teaches at West Point. Pix look best on big screen Mac, if you've got one. Best, Gary

My friend, David Clifton, manages/runs 'The Carpenter's Cupboard', a foodbank in Wheatridge, Colorado. The Cupboard services, on average, one hundred fifty people, per day, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday's. I had the privilege to photograph the efforts of the many volunteers this Easter week, 2013, and I've put up some of the images.

Flatiron Community Church,  Lafayette,  celebrated its fourth 'Shine' extravaganza last evening. Shine is huge party for people with disabilities - formal attire, escorts, food, live music, dancing and games. Over 1K guests were in attendance, and there were over fifteen hundred volunteers.  I hope that you'll  enjoy the pix.

Colorado Adaptive Sports sponsored a weekend 'sled hockey' tournament at the Ice Edge Arena in Littleton this weekend. The players are all disabled without the use of their legs. This didn't prevent them from playing, ' rock em' sock em' hockey' with plenty of cross-checking and slamming each other into the boards. One team from San Antonio, 'The San Antonio Rampage' was made up of injured war vets, and they flat out kicked butt...!
